U.Va. Sees Surge in Donations After Reinstating President ...

The University of Virginia had its best June fundraising in four years after its board backed down on the controversial ouster of the university?s popular president, the Associated Press reports.

The Charlottesville campus took in $44.4-million in cash and pledges in June, its best performance in that month since 2008. The school?s governing board reinstated President Teresa A. Sullivan on June 26, after her forced resignation 16 days earlier triggered a wave of protest among students, faculty, alumni and donors.

?When Sullivan resigned, our giving dropped in half, and when she was reinstated our giving doubled,? said Bob Sweeney, the university?s top development official. ?There was a real galvanizing effect that happened during that period.?
