User guide for Acer's Liquid Gallant Solo surfaces, hints at IFA launch for new Android ICS device?

Acer is probably best known for its Android tablets and super-slick ultrabooks, but that doesn't mean the Taiwanese hardware manufacturer isn't looking to make its mark on the hugely lucrative smartphone market as well.

Only last night, the Aspire S5 maker notched a hat trick of mobile news. Most significantly, the arrival of the Liquid Gallant Solo, or E350, appears to be nearly upon us, with the workmanlike device now boasting a user guide in the download section of Acer's website.

The Gallant Solo is a single-SIM iteration of the double-scoop Gallant Duo, with both devices featuring Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. In addition to the OS pre-load, the Solo will feature a 5-megapixel camera, a 4.3in qHD LCD display, 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. With just a single-core 1GHz processor, it lacks power in the engine room, but the handset's modest specifications are likely to be reflected by a reasonable price tag.

Though nothing to do with cost or?availability?has been hinted at - let alone confirmed - it should slot in to the ?100 to ?150 bracket given the entry-level specs, making it an option for both fandroid schoolchildren and enterprise workers after a decent reserve device. Could a formal announcement emerge at IFA??

Next up was the Acer Liquid Glow. Announced way back at Mobile World Congress in February, the handset has finally made its way to UK shelves and is now listed as in-stock on Expansys.?Again, affordability is a major selling point, with a SIM-free model currently going for ?147.99. The phone features the same Android version, processor and camera specs as the Solo but has a smaller 3.7in, 480 x 800 display.?

Finally, a higher-end Acer mobile also appeared on Expansys yesterday. The Cloud Mobile (CM) is listed at ?284.99 for a SIM-free handset, with a speculative on-sale date of 5 September ventured by the site - once more, IFA comes to mind. Given the more enthusiastic pricing, the CM's spec-sheet is understandably more impressive, with the device featuring a 4.3in 1,280 x 720 display, a dual-core processor running at 1.5GHz, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of on-board storage, an 8MP camera and, of course, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
