Just go to any of the online tax prep sites and file a form 4868th That will give you a six-month extension for filing your return. However, if you owe any taxes (and it seems like you probably will), the extension does NOT apply to the money you owe. You need to pay that as soon as possible. It?s supposed to be paid by April 15 If you do not pay it today, interest will start accumulating.EDIT: The 4868 * IS * the form you use to request an extension for filing ? regardless of your income is reported on Whether a 1099 or on a W-2
